NSEA-SR-158 (Danish North Sea)

CHALLENGE

The SSSV of the well of a major operator in the Danish North Sea had previously failed an inflow test and was reactivated by BLUESPARK® at that time.  The SSSV was failing the inflow test again a year later and was believed to be in a stuck open position.  It was decided to use BLUESPARK® again to clean scale from the SSSV to reactivate it.

SOLUTION

Remove scale from SSSV to restore functionality using electro-hydraulic pulsing technology.

  • The BLUESPARK® 275 tool with Fluid Hold-Up Tool (FHUT) was run on third-party E-Line to the treatment interval

  • Two complete passes, a pass over the flow-tube, and a station at the flapper of the SSSV were completed in a treatment time of 11 hours

  • Camera images were obtained to compare to images made before the BLUESPARK® treatment

CONDITIONS

  • Offshore conventional oil field

  • CaCO3 scale

  • Depth: 1900 ft (580 m)

  • Temperature: 62 °C (144 °F)

OUTCOME

  • The SSSV was cleaned of CaCO3 scale and now passed the inflow test

  • Camera images confirmed that scale had been removed from the SSSV
