75% production increase, sustained for a year

Two months after completion, oil production declined dramatically on this well. We returned it to production in less than half a day.

Challenge

Oil production was lost two months after well completion resulting in only water being produced. As a low volume producer, a cost-effective solution, in conjunction with a workover, was initiated to remediate the well.

Well Conditions

  • Depth 450 m (1500 ft)
  • Unconsolidated Sandstone

Solution

Improve connectivity to the reservoir by re-initiating worm holes using electro-hydraulic stimulation technology.

  • Unconsolidated sandstone (CHOPS) reservoir was treated with Blue Spark BLUESPARK® (Wireline Applied Stimulation Pulsing) to re-initiate production.
  • Approximately 2.5 m (8 ft.) of perforated interval were treated with our wireline conveyed tool.
  • Treatment was completed in half a day.
  • Production rates and fluid levels were both monitored for comparison to pretreatment values.

Outcome

  • Worm-holes were re-initiated allowing oil to flow into the well.
  • Client data from the BLUESPARK® treated well showed an average production increase from 0 bbl/day pre-stimulation to 5.9 bbl/day for 90 days post stimulation.
  • This was a 75% increase over the initial production.
  • Sustained production over one year averaged 5.7 bbl/day.
