Scale removal in a deviated well

Preliminary results indicate a 20% increase in gas production after a 220 ft interval in a deviated Malaysian well was treated in 20 hours.

Preliminary results indicate a 20% increase in gas production after a 220 ft interval in a deviated Malaysian well was treated in 20 hours.

Key results

  • 20 hours treatment time
  • 220ft. treatment interval
  • 20% gas production increase
  • Run on E-Line

Challenge

A major operator in Malaysia was encountering skin damage in their wells due to perforations plugged with CaCO3 scale. The customer was looking for a cost-effective alternative to remove the scale and improve production.

  • Depth: 5,000ft (1,500 m)
  • Temperature: 195 °F (90 °C)
  • ~50 deg deviation

Solution

Improve connectivity to the reservoir clearing out blockages using electro-hydraulic pulsing technology

  • The BLUESPARK® 275 tool was run on third-party E-Line to the treatment interval
  • An interval of 220 ft (67 m) was treated in 20 hrs of total operating time
  • A camera was run to determine the extent of any scale remaining
  • The well was put back on production and monitored

Outcome

  • Comparison of camera images from before and after treatment show removal of a majority of the scale present, as seen in the images above
  • Preliminary results indicate an increase of gas production of 2.4 MMscf/d
