Our BLUESPARK® tool, while straightforward in practice, has been developed and honed by masterful technical and subsurface-downhole oilfield experts. You can tell we've arrived by our notable lack of equipment and supplies. BLUESPARK® doesn't require a truck convoy, work crews, or the usual presence of fluids, toxins, or explosives. All we need is a tool and one technician. And we don't stop there – BLUESPARK® only uses as much energy as a 100W bulb left on for 3 hours in order to get your well back up and running.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN —
A spark of ingenuity.
Before Blue Spark Energy’s story began, a mining magnate was searching for a technology investment big enough to change the world and he discovered a small research facility in France that was thinking about power differently. Typically, a high-powered event is created using a massive amount of energy. However, this company was creating extremely high-powered events with an incredibly small amount of energy by compacting it into a shorter span of time – microseconds.
The investor saw the applicability for this technology in mining and built it out. He knew it had more potential across other industries, but didn’t have a clear idea how to apply it. Focusing his energy in mining, he charged his business partner with forming a company to commercialize the technology in other industries.
They saw the potential for improving extraction methods in the oil and gas industry, and started looking at legacy work done in the field. The concept of using high-powered events in this way was ahead of its time and the industry struggled to grasp the simplicity of this solution. A few years later, they approached Todd Parker, then the Vice President of Weatherford Canada, with the concept.
Over the course of one conversation they realized this technology’s many benefits. If easily packaged and cost-effective, it had the potential to eliminate the need for chemicals, explosives, manpower, and heavy equipment during wellbore interventions.
The researchers showed Todd an example of a D-cell battery being used in microseconds to create an event that was hundreds of megawatts in intensity – able to destroy a giant piece of rock. Todd was sold. He left his position at Weatherford Canada and sat at his kitchen table, daughter’s laptop in hand, to draft up a business case. Blue Spark Energy was born.

Blue Spark Energy’s first investors resonated with the environmental benefits – even in 2011, there was growing pressure and incentive to create a more sustainable industry. This led to Blue Spark Energy developing the BLUESPARK® technology, a high-powered tool that takes less energy than a hair dryer or garage door opener to complete an intervention.
The goal was to create additional flow in a well at a reasonable cost, and with little impact on the environment. Additionally, BLUESPARK® was designed to run off any wireline cable, expanding Blue Spark Energy’s reach to any wellsite in the world with wireline cable available.
Armed with baling wire and duct tape, Blue Spark Energy took on its first project: a Canadian producer’s well that had never produced oil. They granted Blue Spark Energy the afternoon to test the BLUESPARK® tool in the production zone. Assuming it wouldn’t work, no provisions were made to collect the oil – so when the well suddenly began producing oil, there was nowhere to put it!
In 2013, when the Canadian oil and gas industry began to decline, Blue Spark Energy met up with a Norwegian company that loved environmental Canadian technology. They were about to shut down an offshore well in the North Sea and wanted to try Blue Spark Energy’s technology first. BLUESPARK® had never been used on a horizontal well or an offshore well, so it had to be reconfigured for the conditions. Over 24 hours, BLUESPARK® cleared the debris and the well produced another 20,000 barrels of oil over the next few months.
To date, Blue Spark Energy has completed over 1,000 descents with companies worldwide, including Total, BP, and Shell. The technology has limitless possibilities and is simple, efficient, safe, and thrives in remote, hard-to-reach locations.
