CHALLENGE

A major operator in Malaysia was encountering skin damage in their wells due to perforations plugged with CaCO3 scale. The customer was looking for a cost-effective alternative to remove the scale and improve production.

SOLUTION

Improve connectivity to the reservoir clearing out blockages using electro-hydraulic pulsing technology

• The BLUESPARK® 275 tool was run on third-party E-Line to the treatment interval

• An interval of 220 ft (67 m) was treated in 20 hrs of total operating time

• A camera was run to determine the extent of any scale remaining

• The well was put back on production and monitored

Before treatment (left) and after treatment (right) at approx. 5096 ft depth

Before treatment (left) and after treatment (right) at approx. 5097 ft depth

CONDITIONS

  • Depth: 5,000ft (1,500 m)

  • Temperature: 195 °F (90 °C)

  • ~50 deg deviation

OUTCOME

  • Comparison of camera images from before and after treatment show removal of a majority of the scale present, as seen in the images above

  • Preliminary results indicate an increase of gas production of 2.4 MMscf/d
